TAGUIG CITY, Metro Manila–Associates from various PNOC departments participated in an online talk on women’s rights on March 18, 2025, as part of the celebration of the 2025 National Women’s Month. The session featured Atty. Erose Marlo C. Laeno, Attorney IV and member of the Gender and Development Focal Point System Technical Working Group (GFPS-TWG) from PNOC’s Office of the General Counsel.

Underscoring the shared responsibility of advocating for a more equitable society, the event aimed to deepen participants’ awareness on gender issues and their connection to women’s rights. Atty. Laeno also discussed key provisions of the Magna Carta of Women (RA 9710) and other laws that protect and empower women.

One of the highlights of the session was an interactive discussion on the film Hidden Figures. Participants were assigned to breakout rooms to analyze scenes from the movie, encouraging them to reflect on gender discrimination and the legal protections in place to address such issues. They also shared their insights on how historical and present challenges continue to shape women’s roles in the workplace and society.

As the session concluded, associates were reminded that gender equality is a shared responsibility. Maria Terrisa A. Tripulca, Human Resources Management Officer IV and GFPS-TWG Chairperson, stressed the need for continuous advocacy. “This is progress, but our journey does not end here. Achieving true equality requires continuous effort, awareness, and action,” she said.

Tripulca also highlighted the role of men as allies in gender equality and encouraged the participants to apply their learnings not only in the workplace but also in their communities and daily lives. “We recognize the crucial role of men as allies in this movement. Breaking traditional norms and dismantling barriers that limit women’s roles and contributions is not just a women’s issue—it is a collective effort,” she added.

The talk ended with a call to action to uphold women’s rights not only in workplaces but also in everyday interactions, and to exercise civic duties such as voting in the upcoming elections—an essential right that has paved the way for greater female participation in governance.

Reflecting the 2025 Women’s Month theme, ‘Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,’ PNOC remains steadfast in its efforts to foster a workplace that champions equal opportunities, progress, and inclusion.
